WWWW08 and computer problems

January 20, 2008 at 4:53 pm (Kiwi Writers) (, , )

Nah. I broke my computer and without a computer, writing with a computer is quite difficult. So unfortunately I didn’t participate to Kiwi Writers’ The New Year Novella Challenge 2008. There is also an upcoming 7,500-words Waitangi Weekend Word Wace and I think I’ll do it with pen and paper. (Not with a quill pen this time.) Maybe it’s the part three of my Western Trilogy. I haven’t yet thought about the name of it.

Can I help you with anything?

December 8, 2007 at 2:01 am (Worldbuilding) ()

Because the search engines continuously hit me with things like Harry Potter Quill Pens and Moomin fanfics, or “How to write with a quill pen?” I think I should make instructions and add information about those things, so check back soon.

Now I’ll try to help the most recent fans with their things. Search terms for the last seven days:

  • finnish and tolkien 1 — You should ask from Kontu because there are all the Tiks and Haltiamielis who are best ones to help with that.
  • Beronna 1 — Yeah, Walbaron’s capital city from Kontu forum roleplaying world.
  • finnish harry potter names 1 — You should check from Harry Potter sites.
  • harry potter quill pen 1 — This is one of my favourite hits but unfortunately I cannot help. [22]
  • 10th 2007 matriculation maths practise p 1 — Hmm. Sounds interesting. Tell me too if you find something cool about the practices.
  • quill writing papers 1 — This is quite common search so I think I should write something about quills and papers.
  • writing schedule 1 — You should do your own writing schedules yourself, shouldn’t you?
  • moomin pen 1 — I haven’t seen any but you can build your own if you have pictures of Moomins and pens.
  • national playwriting month 1 — See the link on the Events page.
  • writing an ending paper 2 — O_o
  • world building on paper 1 — Aww! World building! I’ll continue building my world when I have more time.
  • writing paper and quills 1 — Hmm. You should ask from a local paper store.
  • harry potter quill pens 1 — [22]
  • miccoh 1 — Umm, this one is… interesting. [22]

Next challenges

December 6, 2007 at 10:36 pm (Kiwi Writers, NaNoWriMo, Script Frenzy) (, , , , , )

I think I won’t talk about NaNo now. You can see my final word count on the right. [22] And NaNoFiMo is running and I’ve written about 0 words so I think I’m sleeping the rest of December and start writing again in 2008.

In January or February, hmm… Battle for Wesnoth fanfic. Interesting. In March there are NaNoEdMo but I don’t know should I participate. In April, aww, there are April Fools Challenge and Script Frenzy which has moved, and also changed the goal from 20,000 words to 100 pages. I think that it’s about 20 % easier now than it was this year. (http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/node/1073270)

After my forthcoming resucceeding in Screnzy I think that I have just enough time to write the AF Challenge in late April because in AF the writers can decide their goals from 500 to 200,000 words.

And now since Screnzy will move away from June, I should have time to write a SoCNoC novel which could compensate the failure of NaNo 2007.

See the Events page for links and more information about this kind of events.

NaNoWriMo 2007

November 11, 2007 at 2:33 am (NaNoWriMo) ()

National Novel Writing Month 2007 has begun!

You can see my progress here:
My NaNoWriMo Progress

As you see, I need more words so I think I’m not going to spend them on blog posts for a little time. *wirn*

edit: Sorry, but I changed my word count target from 50k to 20k because I have lots of other things to do in November. My mathematics teacher also told me that she expects much from me, so I think I should reprioritize things and read mathematics. Now I have no time to write all 50k words but I’m writing as much as I can. Good luck to others! :)

October 2007

October 16, 2007 at 12:55 am (School, Steely Challenge) (, , )

Now it’s October and Steely is running. Ok, it’s 16th of October and I’ve written only 5 %. But I’ll write more tonight. I robbed my mother’s “vedenkeitin” (Finnish word for a machine that boils water) [Täytyi turvautua tankeroenglantiin!] and now I’m drinking Brazilian coconut tea.

About Steely Challenge: We now have The Official Announcement Webpage and a Discussion Forum.

Period II of this school year started a week ago. We have some nice texts to write. Aww, I’m allowed to write few hundred words of Moomin fan fiction.

Moraaliteoria Challenge 2007 continues

September 26, 2007 at 7:12 pm (Other challenges) (, , )

Yesterday I wrote 537/1,000 words of Moraaliteoria Challenge 2007. (The interesting name by Steel.) The story is Greediness for a Dollar, the second part of my Western Trilogy. I’ve wrote more than 50 percent and the heroes are still in the saloon planning the job. As always, the intrigues between the characters will be interesting.

September 25, 2007 at 2:59 pm (Steely Challenge) (, , )

Wow, I sherlocked and found Steel’s English blog about getting international fans.

Famous Vehka the NaNoer said she wants to take part in Steely Challenge and now she has a blog too.

Interesting things are happening.

Bookshelf update

September 22, 2007 at 9:26 pm (Books, Other challenges, School, Steely Challenge, Writing Schedule) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This week was quite good. I bought books and participated in mathematics matriculation exam (which I must re-participate in March because I didn’t get full points) and I got some birthday present money I’ll spend on even more books. There are also English and Geography matriculation exams next week but however I challenged Steel to write 1,000 more words during the that week (Moraaliteoria Challenge 2007) because I can’t wait October’s Steely Challenge.

New in the bookshelf:

  • Tove Jansson’s The Exploits of Moominpappa in Finnish, the 1st edition
  • Jude Fisher’s Fool’s Gold 1: Sorcery Rising in English
  • Santeri Palin’s Elämän kolmio kuoleman syklissä in Finnish, aww
  • J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in Swedish, 2.50 €

October 1st will be interesting. Firstly I’ll go to NaNo web page and take the participation banner. Then I’m going to start writing SC 07 which is about Baron von Dille, the Investigator.

Steel wants me to include a cable tie in my Steely Challenge 2007 story. So fascinating…

Palin in Wikipedia

September 10, 2007 at 3:35 am (Idols) (, , )

I wrote a Wikipedia article about Santeri Palin, Incánus, the president of Kontu Internet Community (Verkkoyhteisö Kontu ry), one of my favourite poets. Let’s hope they won’t delete the article as they would do in the Finnish Wikipedia. I have wrote about him in the Anglo-Saxon Wikipedia as well.

A Steely Challenge

September 9, 2007 at 2:40 pm (NaNoWriMo, Steely Challenge) (, , )

I challenged Steel to write a 10,000 word NaNo warm-up in October and of course she was forced to accept. The word count seems small but anyway, it’s half a Screnzy and shouldn’t be underestimated. Who will write more words? Exciting, isn’t it?

The Little Folk’s Midwinter

September 9, 2007 at 3:19 am (Inspiration, NaNoWriMo, Script Frenzy) (, , , , , , , , , )

When I was reading Steel’s NaNo blog To create a write-like feel (The famous Script Frenzy 2007 author of The Lemming Conspiracy, the one who got the trailer award for Best Use of Cute Photos of Lemmings – I’m so envious because I didn’t get any awards for Best Use of Scary Photos of Sea Snakes), I realized I haven’t edited any banners yet for my next NaNo text. Then all I had to do was to create an image with Paint Shop Pro and Microsoft Paint. Because I didn’t know what I’ll write for NaNo, I had to decide it as well because I needed to know what kind of things to include in the picture, of course. It’ll be The Little Folk’s Midwinter – I’d like to know am I able to create an atmosphere similar to the books of Moomins by Tove Jansson.

So here it comes:

Writing contest links

September 8, 2007 at 8:22 pm (Writing Schedule) ()

I googled and wikied about some writing events and according to the results I created a link collection of few good links about NaNo-like things through the year. They are arranged by month at the Events page. I hope it’s now easier to plan the writing schedules. I don’t think I’m going to participate in every contest, and with the Events page I can make conclusions: what should I leave out and in what month should I practice more my writing skills. If you know any important events that aren’t listed in the link collection and should be listed, please contact me with an e-mail or a blog comment.

New plans

September 2, 2007 at 3:39 am (Competitions, NaNoWriMo, Writing Schedule) (, , , )

I noticed an interesting upcoming competition. (http://www.atenakustannus.fi/dev/parnasso/, in Finnish only) A Publicist company Atena Kustannus Oy and Parnasso are arranging a huge prose competition. The participants must write a prose script of up to 300 pages and send it to Atena before May 5th 2008. Atena publishes the winner’s script and the best three candidates will be rewarded well (1st: 10,000 €; 2nd: 5,000 €; 3rd: 3,000 €). Unfortunately for my foreign readers, I think I must write the script in Finnish, so you must wait until the upcoming book is published before my translators could get to work.

So now my plan is to get an unusual idea for the NaNo 2007 and I still have half a year left for editing. The results will be known at The Helsinki Book Fair 2008, so I’ll let you know if I win.
